What are some of the strategies to include in a Louisville parenting plan? How can the divorce and family law attorneys at Dodd & Dodd protect your interests as a parent in a divorce?
The parenting plan is essentially a formalized strategy for how you will raise children during and after a divorce. There are many strategies to include in a Louisville parenting plan covering many topics from the schedule, transportation and pick-up of your children, sharing important dates, maintaining communications and even personal rules agreed upon by the co-parents.
The schedule should clearly identify the dates or days of the week or pattern each child will spend with each co-parent. It can be as simple as alternating every other week with a visitation for the non-custodial parent on Tuesdays or complex in order to reflect the natural rhythms of your children’s lives. The parenting plan should clearly establish how the co-parents will share important dates and times in their children’s lives from birthdays and vacations to holidays and extra-curricular activities.
Another of the strategies to include in a Louisville parenting plan is how the children are to be transported, by whom and how communications will be maintained between each child and each parent. Our Courts believe it is in the best interest of the child to have consistent quality communication with each of their parents. How will this be managed on a co-parent’s off week? How freely available will access to phone calls, chatting, texts, e-mails and other forms of communication be for each co-parent?
Personal rules agreed upon by the parties are another of the important strategies to include in a Louisville parenting plan. For example, who will be watching the children if a co-parent becomes ill or has an important engagement during an “on” night (a night they are scheduled to have the kids). Should the “off” parent be given first right to watch the kids of there is a scheduling conflict?
Each parenting plan can be as unique as the co-parents and children it addresses. We invite you to review the strong recommendations of our former clients and contact us or call 502-584-1108 to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced divorce and family law attorneys.
