What Should You Wear to Your Divorce

What Should You Wear to Your Divorce - Louisville Vista Courthouse

What should you wear to your divorce?  It may seem like an odd question, but how you dress and the way in which you handle yourself and all associated communications will have a substantial impact on your divorce case.  Does this surprise you?

This is especially true in the context of a contested divorce, where you and your former spouse have serious disagreement about anything from child custody and visitation to the amount and duration of child support, spousal maintenance or the division of a business or professional practice.

The divorce and family law attorneys at Dodd & Dodd have decades of experience in the Family Court in Louisville.  We provide sound advice and counsel on many aspects of how to handle yourself throughout the process of a divorce.  What should you wear to your divorce or any appearance or hearing in Family Court?  We can discuss the specifics with you in person, but generally speaking you want to dress like you would for a semi-formal event.  Gentlemen should consider a suit, or at least blazer with a dress shirt and slacks.  Women should consider an appropriate dress, business attire or pants with dress clothing.

If you are making an appearance in Family Court you do not want to be wearing casual clothing such as a t-shirt and jeans, shorts, exercise clothing or shoes, tank tops or a crop top.  The Family Court in Louisville has an established dress code and if you are not appropriately attired you will be ordered to leave and reschedule the matter for another day.  This does not leave the appropriate impression on the Judge in your case.

What should you wear to your divorce in Louisville or Louisville?  How should you handle yourself and all communications between you and your former spouse?  These are important questions to discuss with our experienced, proven team.

We invite you to review the strong recommendations of our former clients and contact us or call 502-584-1108 to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced divorce and family law attorneys.
