Stuart McCloy was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky and grew up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  After graduating from Elizabethtown High School, he attended Vanderbilt University where he majored in political science and had double minors in Russian language and literature and in Mandarin Chinese.  He was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic fraternity his junior year and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  After graduation, he attended the National Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Training Center in Taipei, Taiwan on a Rotary International Graduate Fellowship. On his return he matriculated at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. and was awarded his Juris Doctor degree.

He returned to his hometown and initially engaged in the general practice of law with the firm of Lewis, Bland and Preston, a plaintiff-oriented tort litigation firm and also held the prosecutorial offices of Assistant County Attorney and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney before becoming an Assistant Attorney General and the Director of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control Division.

His family moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he held positions as Group Operations Counsel with the hospital company Columbia/HCA before joining the Behavioral Healthcare Corporation as Assistant General Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer.  He returned home to Kentucky and joined the McBrayer law firm in Lexington, where he practiced health care transactions law and white-collar criminal defense.  A turn as Assistant Executive Director of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Legal Services was next in his career path which ultimately led to his Associate Attorney status with the Dodd & Dodd Law Firm, PLLC, where he concentrates his time on the firm’s large domestic relations practice.
